Anyone remember the drive-in movie theater that was located at 12902 N Cave Creek Rd. When my parents ran it, it was called the Valley Drive-In. Spent a lot of time there watching movies. My second job at a restaurant at 67th ave & Bell Rd, I had to drive to work on a 2 lane road, I could make it to work from Cave Creek & Greenway rd to work in 20 min not driving fast.
LATER, WHEN HE COULD NO LONGER FARM & MOST OF HIS HOLDINGS BECAME SUBDIVISIONS, HE LOVED TO GIVE CHILDREN RIDES ON HIS HORSE, AFTER THEY GOT OUT OF SCHOOL
MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE STATES AS „ADDRESS“, „19TH AV & INDIAN SCHOOL RD. YEAR OF 1935“. YEP!! IT’S TRUE! NOT MANY „REAL ADDRESSES“ IN THOSE DAYS, „WAY OUT IN THE COUNTRY“. MILE & 1/2 MILE CROSSROADS WERE GIVEN FOR ADDRESSES.
MOM CAME TO PHOENIX, FROM GERMANY, AS A 17 YR.OLD, NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING PERSON, ON BORROWED $$ . SHE HAD A JOB WAITING FOR HER SO SHE COULD PAY BACK THE $$ NO PAVED STREETS IN PHOENIX THEN. MODE OF TRANSPORTATION WAS MAINLY HORSE & BUGGY. NO A/C. IF YOU HAD A PORTABLE FAN, YOU WERE CONSIDERED „WELL OFF“.
DADDY & HIS FAMILY DROVE 300 HEAD OF CATTLE FROM TEXAS. YEP! COVERED WAGON & ALL! SETTLED IN AZ ALONG „THE BLUE“ & THEN ON TO WINKLEMAN AZ & SET UP A RANCH. AFTER HIS ARMY SERVICE, DURING WWI, HE GAVE UP RANCHING, WITH HIS FAMILY & SOUGHT WORK WHERE MONEY COULD BE HAD. „THOSE WERE DEPRESSION TIMES“ I HAVE THE EMPLOYEE I.D. CARD, OF MY FATHER’S, WHEN HE WAS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL WORKERS ON „BOULDER DAM“. LATER NAMED „HOOVER DAM“. HE WAS ON THE CREW GETTING THE CABLES ACROSS THE CANYON SO WORK, ON THE DAM, COULD BEGIN. MY PARENTS WERE TRUE PIONEERS!
I REMEMBER WHEN THE CITY LIMITS, OF PHOENIX, WERE PUT „CLEAR UP TO CAMELBACK ROAD“!! NONE OF US COULD UNDERSTAND WHY OR HOW IT COULD BE CALLED „CITY LIMITS“ WHEN IT WAS ALL FARM LAND!! SEEMED „OUTRAGEOUS“ TO ALL OF US „FARMERS“! 😉
CHRIS HARI WAS A NEIGHBORING FARMER TO US. DEL WEBB PURCHASED SOME OF HIS LAND & WAS KIND ENOUGH TO CALL THE MALL, „CHRIS TOWN“, AFTER CHRIS. THIS WAS DONE AFTER I HAD BEEN MARRIED AND HAD 2 DAUGHTERS. WE LIVED ON BETHANY HOME RD & 31 AV(SW COR) WHEN CHRIS TOWN HAD ITS „GRAND OPENING“. CARS WERE LINED UP FROM 19 AV & BETHANY HOME RD TO WEST OF OUR HOUSE & ON TO 35TH AV TO GET INTO CHRIS TOWN! CHRIS WAS A VERY KINDHEARTED, HARD WORKING GENTLEMAN.
Loved running around the whole city
AT THE SAME TIME-FRAME AS CHRIS, MY UNCLE HOMESTEADED 80 ACRES. N.SIDE OF NORTHERN AV TO BUTLER, FROM 23RD AV TO APPROX 27TH AV
YES. I PLEASANTLY, & WARMLY, RECALL ALL OF THE PLACES COMMENTED ON, BY MY PREDECESSOR BLOGGERS, ON THIS WONDERFUL BLOG SITE!
I AM NOT LAUGHING „AT THEM“, THE GREAT WRITERS. BUT, AT WHAT SEEMS „LIKE A LONG TIME AGO“! AND, YES. I SUPPOSE IT WAS.
Boy, what fun to read all the comments posted. I moved to Phoenix in the late 70’s. Remember so many of the places, restaurants, parks, malls. Even to Tempe. Many happy memories https://www.hookupdate.net/sugar-daddies-uk/ there. I worked at Long Hair Inc. through manpower inc. But my husband worked there full time. There was 3 owners, 3 full time employees, including the chemist. Used to go along on deliveries to the hair salons. What memories this brings back.
What about the Sun Club in Tempe? Seen many awesome punk shows there! Grandfather used to watch Rose Mofford play softball when she was young. Quad riding near 7st and tbird the Pointe hotel was only thing there. Rollero. Levis from Yellow Front.
