As I am writing and submitting this blog post, Pokémon Go is publishing Sinnoh Pokémon on the roads. Now, I really like different generations for a reason or the other but Generation 4 seems to have a unique place in my heart as that was when I got back into Pokémon following a very long hiatus. Specifically, Pokémon Platinum ranks as one of my favorite Pokémon games since they took Diamond and Pearl and improved everything about these games creating a leading classic.
But we are here in order to ascertain which ones are the best to get a Monotype (or solitary Type) Run that’s a run in which you only capture and train one kind of Pokémon. And alas, the Sinnoh matches have been either hit or miss. Although more Pokémon have been released, Diamond and Pearl only have 150 Pokémon available so that you get some pretty average runs. Platinum thankfully adds 60 greater Pokémon to Sinnoh which produces a lot of types achievable or splendid.
I’ve written previous articles on Monotype Run so check out those. However, for people who are unfamiliar here are some rules.
- Only Pokémon of a particular type could be captured and educated.
- You need to catch the very first Pokémon available of this kind if your starter does not fit that kind (you’ll then need to disregard that newcomer ).
- You will train a Pokémon that evolves to stated kind as long as you get it done ASAP.
- No trading allowed
- Just Pokémon captured before Elite Four have been counted.

Without further ado, let’s take a look! A list of full team mixes can be seen below too.
The Very Greatest Types
Beginning with the top tier I’d say that the Water, Poison, Regular , Psychic, Steel, and Struggling types are types you ought to go for due to their commonality, premature availability and type policy. This is actually the first time in the show in which Poison can shield itself from Psychic attacks thanks to Drapion and Stuntank and when you have Roserade, Toxicroak, Crobat, and Tentacruel financing up you you’re in for a fantastic time. Fighting types meanwhile possess a close consistent occurrence-rate since you have Chimchar as your own starter and then later you have Medicham, Toxicroak, and, of course, Lucario. Water is amazing as standard but this conduct is exceptional since you got Empoleon who’s incredibly infrequent and astonishing. Empoleon’s presence also creates the Sinnoh games a hidden jewel for a Steel team, certainly don’t miss it .
Meanwhile, the Platinum enriches these kinds farther and create Ground and Flying kinds entertaining…thanks tooooo Gliscor! Gliscor’s wonderful type combo improves both of these forms and come-on, it is Gliscor, they are the best. You also can train a Mamoswine for Earth and a Togekiss and Yanmega for Flying.
The Wrong Types
Like regular, Dragon and Ice are types that I strongly urge against. In spite of Platinum these types suffer due to late game availability (especially Ice), limited selections, and bad coverage. Additionally, if you are playing Diamond or Pearl, Fire and Electric are pretty abysmal. It’s true that you can capture both kinds early on but there are hardly any of them. Platinum increases their diversity and leaves them doable but it is going to certainly be a walk in the park. Dark forms can also be rather gloomy if a playing Pearl or Platinum as they’re available mid-game in the best and there’s a lackluster motto. Luckily, in Diamond, you can grab a Murkrow at Eterna Forest following the first gym.
Spiritomb
If you skipped forward and looked through the list, you might have noticed Spiritomb is missing from the Dark and Ghost type lists. That is because he is among the hardest non-legendary Pokémon to capture. You will need to acquire the Old Keystone, which itself is not overly difficult, but you also have to talk to 32 people in the underground. They must be actual individuals also and not NPCs! Thankfully, you’ll only need another individual with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum to do it. However, since you will need an additional copy of the game in order to get Spiritomb this technically disqualifies Spiritomb based on our principles. But Dark kind still has impartial coverage as a result of Drapion.
